WINCHESTER MYSTERY HOUSE

If you haven't been to or heard of the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, CA, definitely take a few minutes out of your day to read up on it and look at some pictures. I went when I was little, and remember how kooky & spooky it was. A maze-like plan, staircases leading nowhere, doorways blocked off by a wall...

The Winchester Mystery House was the home of Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun manufacturing tycoon William Wirt Winchester. This Queen Anne style mansion is known for its size, lack of a building plan, and Sarah Winchester's belief that it was haunted. Supposedly, the spirits of those that had fallen victim to a Winchester rifle haunted Sarah in this home, and she believed that the only way to appease them was to continue building. The mansion was under construction for 38 years, and would have cost $71 Million to construct today.
