TEARDOWNS *TEAR

Elin Nordegren, the estranged wife of Tiger Woods, tore down a $12M (!!??!!) 1920's mansion in Palm Beach, Florida.

Being a supporter of Historic Preservation, it is incredibly sad to see such a remarkable home disappear. The reason given for the demolition was that the home wasn't built to hurricane codes, and also had extensive termite and carpenter ant damage. While I'm sure these problems could have been remedied with intensive effort and resources, Elin was advised that it would be easier and more efficient to start fresh. She is rumored to be building a new structure similar to the one that she just knocked down.

I am happy to note that Elin opened the mansion to the local Habitat for Humanity for an entire month, and allowed them to remove resources that could be reused in the charity's projects.
